‘Significant flooding’ possible massive spring storm hits: upper thames

Southwestern Ontarians Could Be in Store for the Worst Flooding in Seven Years As Up to 75 Millimeters of Rain is Expected to Fall by Early Thursday, The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Warns.

Forecasts are predicting between 30 and 75 millimeters of Rain across the Upper Thames Watershed, the Authority Said in a Flood Warning.

Environment Canada Has Issued Warnings About Freez Rain and Heavy Rain for the Southwestern Ontario Région. A brief period of freezing rain wednesday morning was expected to turn to rain. BETWEEN 30 and 50 Millimeters is possible before thursday morning, with high love possible if repeated thunderstorms occur in the same area, the agency said.

Weather Warnings Issued by Environment Canada Cover Most of Ontario, Ranging from Snowfall in the North to Rainfall and Freezing Rain Across the South and East. Freezing Rain Warnings Were also in Place For Large Parts of Quebec, Where the Storm was expected to advance by Wednesday Night.

“WE’RE LOOKING AT PRETTY MUCH EVERY Type of Severe Weather You Can Think of Being Associated With this One System,” Said Geoff Coulson, A Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Flood Warnings Are in Effect in Several Areas in Anticipation of Wednesday’s Storm, included Southwestern Ontario.

“Ground conditions Are Already Saturated from the Spring Runoff and the Rain Over the Past Weekend, and not able to absorb More Water,” The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Said.

Weather Models are inconsistent, but if the rainfall total are Near the Lower End, Minor Flooding in Low-Lying Areas is expected.

“If the Higher Forecasts are accurate, Levels May Rise to Those Experienced in February 2018, or Possible Above, With More meaningful flooding,” The Authority Said.

In February 2018, Southwestern Ontario Experienced the Worst Flooding in 40 Years Caused by Torrential Rain and A Massive Snow melt.

The Upper Thames Conservation Authority is Warning Residents to Stay Out of Flooded Areas This Week and to Be Cautious Near Streams, Creeks and Rivers.

The Thames is expected to Crest in Mitchell and Stratford on Thursday afternoon and in London on Thursday Eventing and Into Early Friday, The Authority Said.

Flood Control Reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood and Pittock Conservation Areas Will Be in Use to Reduce Downnstream Flooding.
