Action groups have started a petition to save the ferry at Nieuwer ter Aa. Rijkswaterstaat no longer considers the ferry service over the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal safe because of the increasingly larger cargo ships that it has to cross. Earlier, the intention to delete the ferry had already led to indignation in the municipal and provincial authorities and even in the House of Representatives.
