Suddenly a letter from Bjärreds IF and Borgebys FK’s boys’ football school landed in 104-year-old Sigge Holmqvist’s mailbox. There was an offer to start spring boys’ soccer in Bjärred IF – for children who would turn five. When Sigge Holmqvist opened the mail, he got a surprise to say the least. In the envelope was an invitation to the start-up of Bjärreds IF – Borgeby FK’s boys’ school for children who would turn five. Sydsvenskan was the first to report on this. – I was very surprised. I actually thought it was a mistake and nothing else, says Sigge Holmqvist. Born in 1918 Although it was around 90 years since Sigge played football, he clearly remembers how it could happen when he himself played with his friends at home in Blekinge. – One of us was playing football with wooden slippers, he got furious, so the slipper went off at such a speed that if it didn’t hit someone, it flew past someone’s ears, says Sigge Holmqvist. According to Bjärreds IF’s chancellor Christel Junholt, there was surprise mixed with laughter when they discovered their mistake. Invitations were to be sent to children born in 2018, and Sigge Holmqvist, who was born in 1918, happened to be included.
