Sierhuis knocks FC Utrecht out with a late goal

UTRECHT – FC Utrecht took a heavy blow in Almelo by losing to Heracles Almelo. The number 15 of the Eredivisie won 1-0. Kaj Sierhuis became the match winner.

There was little excitement in the first half, although the home team was perhaps a little more threatening. There was a chance for Sierhuis, but goalkeeper Fabian de Keijzer was unable to pass.

Utrecht started the second part well. Immediately after the restart, Djevencio van der Kust shot at the intersection. Moments later, an attempt by Mark van der Maarel passed, now after preparatory work by Van der Kust. Heracles answered with another attempt by Sierhuis and then with a bicycle kick from Bilal Basacikoglu, for which De Keijzer had to stretch into the corner.

Sierhuis scored in the 82nd minute, after a good assumption and a nice passing movement. He was unlocked by Basacikoglu. Sierhuis was injured shortly before the end.

First base place Henk Veerman

Henk Veerman was first in the base at Utrecht in the Eredivisie. Veerman made the winning goal in the previous round against Cambuur as a substitute on his debut for the club. He was taken over from sc Heerenveen during the winter period. Veerman was halfway through the second half dangerous twice within a minute. First he shot over, then on his next shot saw goalkeeper Janis Blaswich save.

FC Utrecht remains seventh. Heracles Almelo has taken a little more distance from the relegation zone.
