(Finance) – “After almost 40 years the Pietrarossa dam will be completed”. The announcement comes from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport which indicates that the call for tenders for works on the executive project has been published. Total cost for completion 82 million eurosof which about 52, subject of the published tender, financed with the funds PNRR. Completion involves the construction of the last 7 meters in height for a length of one and a half kilometers.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salviniexpressed “great satisfaction” because “after too many years, we are finally close to closing an important story for the Sicily”.
The dam, explains the Ministry, is considered a strategic work for the territories of the Plain of Catania and is part of a wider system of water works, aimed at irrigation. Based on a 1983 project, the works began in 1989 and then stopped following a landslide, when only a small part was missing to be completed (5%). After more than twenty years, it was the Sicilian Region that restarted the process, signing an agreement in 2018 with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to finally make the structure operational. Inserted in 2021 among the strategic works, it was entrusted to the Extraordinary Commissioner Ornella Counters.
