“Benzema” tried to start a drug center in Iraq • Therése Cedergren on the development
There have been many question marks. Why was one of Sweden’s most wanted criminals executed in his car in a traffic jam in Baghdad? I’ve thought about it a lot as a crime reporter. Was a little frustrated at not getting an insight into the investigation.
Now we finally get to know more. The information that Benzema was well on his way to starting drug production in Iraq, financed through bank fraud, shows how the Swedish gangs are deliberately trying to establish themselves in other countries. Something Noa recently pointed out in this one the report.
What I do know is that Benzema, like his former friends Rawa Majid (Kurdish Fox) and Ismael Abdo (Strawberry) was a strong-willed entrepreneur. He showed proof of that when he started a street kitchen in Hudiksvall as a teenager. It didn’t go well at all. It also didn’t go well for Majid, who started an ice cream kiosk in Uppsala as a young man, and Abdo helped his family with a berry and fruit business. But the dream of getting rich through legal activities was dashed and they chose the criminal path.
Huge sums
Eventually, they conspired over the drug market and pumped huge sums into the criminal Foxtrot network. They waged war against the rival Valley Network and the Bandidos. But something happened in the summer of 2023 – Abdo and Majid became mortal enemies.
They did not agree on how the drug deals should be managed. Abdo’s mother was shot dead and the worst wave of violence so far in Sweden was a fact. Benzema chose Majid’s side. And all of a sudden he was unfriendly to Abdo and his allies.
At the same time, Benzema began to distance himself from Majid. The dream of standing on its own two feet with its La Liga network and driving the big business into drug deals in Iraq beckoned. He knew he had a price on his head and faked his own death in Baghdad just a few months before he was shot dead in Baghdad on the eighth of January.
Many questions
We will probably never know who is behind the ordering of the murder. As usual in contract killings, it is the shooters who are arrested and prosecuted, but rarely the instigators. Now three young men have been sentenced to death in Iraq.
The police say they have stopped the revenge attacks after Benzema’s death. But the dream of becoming a drug lord cannot be stopped. Too many people dream of being like Benzema. To rule his empire from a distance – sit in Iraq or Turkey and make money from drugs and fraud in Sweden while young boys shoot each other to death. There are plenty of criminals who want to become wealthy gang leaders.
There will be more like Benzema, Majid, and Abdo. Be sure.
The drug and the war
The gang war around Rawa Majid, the “Kurdish Fox”, is raging. Children kill and are killed. TV4 News tells the story of the crimes and innocent victims.
