“Shouldn’t be allowed” – A “very good” game on Steam advertises a 90% discount and players are angry

The Hitman trilogy is currently enjoying a big discount on Steam, but it’s not as good as it looks at first glance.

What kind of game is this? It’s about Hitman: World of Assassination, which combines Hitman 1-3 and the roguelike mode “Freelancer”. On Steam, this version of the popular stealth games enjoys the status “very positive” with 85% recommendations. The game normally costs €69.99, but the deluxe edition costs €99.99.

Anyone who has the game on their wishlist or enters it in the search on Steam will currently be surprised by a price of €2.99 – but the discount is not as good as it looks at first glance.

Misleading discount and complicated purchase

What is the problem? The 90% discount only applies to Hitman: WoA Part One, which normally costs €29.99. However, this is only apparent when you visit the game’s store page. One user complained about this in the Steam subreddit, saying: “This shouldn’t be allowed.”

It is unclear to what extent the developers can do anything about the way the price is displayed. It is quite possible that this is the result of an unfortunate collision between Steam’s system and the game’s admittedly somewhat complex pricing structure. Nevertheless, the experience remains frustrating for the user.

The somewhat misleading discount is only part of the problem, however, as Hitman: WoA is notorious for making the entire purchase process unnecessarily complicated. As one user on Reddit explains: When people have to make purchase tutorials for your game because you made it so difficult to understand, you should know you screwed up somewhere.

Although it may seem that way, this comment is not exaggerated, as there is actually a buyer’s guide that you can find on the Hitman subreddit.

So what do you get for the price? In addition to free seasonal content and the ICA training missions, Part One includes the 6 maps from Hitman 1 from 2016. There are also 3 “Deluxe Escalations”.

However, the Freelancer mode and content from Hitman 2 and 3 are behind a paywall and must be purchased separately. The Hitman: WoA Upgrade Pack is also currently reduced and is available for €25.19 instead of €39.99 (via Steam).

If you like the offer, you can still get the entire game for under 30 euros until August 5th.

If you decide to buy it and immerse yourself in the world of Agent 47, you should make sure that you do not completely lose sight of your surroundings. Otherwise, you could become the victim of an insidious attack yourself: Killer cat deletes a streamer’s progress in Hitman 3 with deadly precision
