Should you wash with soap or shower gel? A dermatologist answers

Should you wash with soap or shower gel A dermatologist

Dermatologists have decided between shower gel and soap, and here is which one is best for our skin.

In the body wash section, the choice is available to us! Between shower foam, shower oil or even shower cream, there are many options on the market today. But among the two most used products, namely solid soap and shower gel, is one fundamentally better than the other? Dermatologists have answered this question that everyone asks.

If solid soap and shower gel both have the same function, that is to say to eliminate dirt present on the epidermis, dermatologists interviewed by the magazine Byrdie gave their opinions for an ideal hygiene routine. For its part, cleansing bars, increasingly popular with the advent of solid cosmetics, contain few preservatives and less packaging, but have a high pH (around 9). It can therefore dry out the epidermis unless it is enriched with nourishing nutrients, such as oil or vegetable butters. Experts therefore recommend it to sensitive, easily irritated skin. “Body soaps are known to create a slimy appearance or residue on the skin and in the shower that some people find unpleasant” also adds Dr. Hayley Goldbach.

A hygiene product par excellence, shower gel in liquid form is perfect for eliminating pollution, impurities and perspiration accumulated throughout the day. Due to its neutral Ph, closer to that of the skin, it dries the epidermis less than solid soap. This is why it is recommended for dry skins, who need maximum hydration. However, we forget those with an ultra-long list of ingredients and formulas full of perfumes, at the risk of damaging your skin and causing allergic reactions. Another negative point? Plastic packaging. There you go, you now have all the keys to making an informed decision.
