The electricity subsidy can be paid out in cash when people receive a payment notice from Försäkringskassan.

– It will be very difficult for people. That was not at all what Ebba Busch gave the impression of, says Social Democrats party leader Magdalena Andersson.

Energy and Industry Minister Ebba Busch (KD) said in SVT’s 30 minutes that the government found a legally secure way to pay the electricity subsidy to households and businesses without paperwork.

– She said it would be simple and smooth, says Magdalena Andersson.

Försäkringskassan will manage the payment and the money will arrive in February at the earliest. But now it appears that the authority will not be able to produce account numbers for everyone who should have the support.

“A security issue”

Therefore, many households will have their electricity subsidy paid out on a payment notice, and receive thousands of kroner in cash. Magdalena Andersson reacts to how the government handled the compensation issue.

– It would be one thing if you had now lived up to your election promise that this would be in place and paid out on November 1. Now it will come in February at the earliest, then there is plenty of time to resolve this so that it will be easy for Swedish citizens, she says.

– I think of all the elderly, should they have to walk around town with thousands of kroner in cash? It is a security issue.

Busch: Trusts FK

Ebba Busch trusts that Försäkringskassan will find a reasonable model for the payments.

– I understand that they are working hard on the issue and that this is part of their mission, to see how to make this as smooth as possible. Now they have received the assignment from the government and I assume that they will come back with more comprehensive information about how the payment will be able to reach the final households.

TT: In many places in Sweden, there are no bank offices nearby?

– Unfortunately, I have to refer all such questions to Försäkringskassan. They are allowed to give an account of how the situation is now, but above all how they intend to move the situation forward – given that they have just been given the assignment, says Ebba Busch.
