Some call them “war profiteers”: companies in the energy sector have seen their profits soar as energy prices rise. This is the case of oil companies Shell and Total, which have tripled their profits since the start of the year compared to pre-war results. Faced with this situation, several European countries have imposed taxes on these superprofits. In France, the debate is lively.
What are the obstacles to the introduction of such a tax? What alternatives to compensate for the increase in prices suffered by consumers? Can there be a measure that would concern all companies generating record profits?
