An 18-year-old is suspected of murdering a 25-year-old man on an open street in Eskilstuna. On Monday, the verdict in the case will be announced.
In the afternoon of May 23, the police were called to Bellmansplan in the Brunnsbacken district of Eskilstuna after callers heard a series of loud bangs. At the scene, in the middle of a residential area, a 25-year-old man was found shot to death with several shots in front of shocked witnesses.
Several people also witnessed the perpetrator’s escape from the scene. According to the Eskilstuna-Kuriren, a witness described how he saw a person on an electric scooter wearing a mask, hood and gloves driving through the area shortly after the shots.
Three days later, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated weapons offences. He was later arrested on probable cause on suspicion of murder.
The suspect, who turned 18, was charged at the beginning of November at the Eskilstuna District Court for murder and aggravated weapons offences. The prosecutor has requested that he be sentenced to eight years in prison.
The 18-year-old suspect has denied all charges.
Eskilstuna district court was supposed to announce the verdict in the case last week, but it was postponed and the verdict will be announced instead at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Up to and including December 14, 32 shootings took place in Eskilstuna. This can be compared to a total of 34 shootings between 2018 and 2021, according to SVT Sörmland.
