The world’s best athlete in 2022, the Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, is charging for a new season after the magnificent one with two World Cup golds (indoor and outdoor), European Championship gold and world record twice again.
The 23-year-old starts the indoor season with his own competition in Uppsala on February 2 and then runs another three during February.
— He doesn’t want too many competitions, wants a little longer in between. And he doesn’t have to be involved in everything indoors because it’s constant conditions, says Wessfeldt.
The indoor season ends with the EC in Istanbul on March 2–5.
— There is no decision on the EC. Whether he takes part or not certainly has to do with how he feels and how things go forward in the competitions, according to Wessfeldt.
The agent says that Duplantis is currently at his American home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and that he will come to Sweden shortly after the Christmas holidays to make final preparations for the start of the racing season.
