Shop employee Åsa’s service was cut: “Can no longer live on the salary”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Planing, or redeployment to a position with a lower employment rate, means that employers redo the existing positions so that the employees get fewer working hours instead of being dismissed.

In Åsa’s case, her guaranteed working hours changed from 7.5 hours a week to 6 hours a week when the retail chain she works for closed a store. It also means that her salary will be lower.

– The contract was and is for very few hours, but on that I had a temporary job that continued, since then there has always been extra time to apply for, and overtime. Today, that possibility does not exist. I only have 6 hours on my contract now, says Åsa Andersson.

Dispute over working conditions

In the upcoming negotiations, the trade union Handels has set demands to cancel planing and increase the hours on the contracts, which SVT reported on.

Swedish Trade has no plans to meet the requirements. It is clear when both parties have presented their bids before the negotiations.

But for Åsa, the situation is urgent. The salary from her six hours a day cannot live on, she says. Now she has started to look around for other jobs – in other industries.
