Police received a number of calls about the shooting at the Pitchers pub shortly after 9pm on Christmas Day evening.

They were later able to confirm that a person had been shot inside the pub.

Late in the evening, Region Västmanland announced that a man between the ages of 25 and 34 is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

According to VLT are both police and guards on site outside the emergency room at Västerås hospital where the man is being treated.

No one else is said to have been injured. The square where Pitchers and several other pubs are located has been cordoned off.

A large hunt is underway for the perpetrators. The police check cars on the E18, search with dog patrols and drones.

At 11:30 p.m., no one had yet been arrested.

“Be a bit chaotic”

According to information to Västerås Newspaper there were between 25-30 people in the room when the shooting took place.

– Initially, it was a bit chaotic. It’s a typical night out, it’s Christmas Day and lots of people on the move. Now most people know that something has happened. There is a lot of work going on. says Magnus Jansson Klarin to Aftonbladet.

– There are quite a few people who have witnessed parts of this.
