Shooter on Steam has died 3 times already

The shooter “Alliance of Valiant Arms”, or “AVA” for short, has a rather eventful release history. Now the developers are daring to make another attempt to release it worldwide via Steam.

What kind of game is this? AVA is a first-person shooter that has existed in its original team multiplayer form since 2007. AVA first appeared in South Korea and was later released in North America and Europe.

But the global version of the game failed several times:

  • The European and American versions of the game have changed publishers several times over the years.
  • AVA landed in 2016 with the publisher “En Masse”, who discontinued the game in 2018. That was the first ending (via Steam) and the team said goodbye to their fans.
  • Then developer “Red Duck” wanted to appear as a publisher and revive the game as “AVA Dog Tag”. But after the beta release on May 2, 2019, the game’s servers were closed again on May 29, 2019 and the game was removed from Steam. Another farewell letter followed (via Steam). That was the second ending.
  • But a third attempt followed: AVA was announced for March 31, 2021 on Steam – this time by developer and publisher “Neowiz”. But things went wrong again: On March 16, 2021, the AVA team wrote another letter to the community that the launch had to be postponed because the game was “a little old” and tests had shown problems that were being solved would have to (via Steam).
  • So the project died for the third time on Steam – but only for the time being. Because now there is another announcement: According to the “AVA Operations Team”, the game should now start on August 25, 2022 on Steam.

The next attempt is called “AVA Global” – what will that be?

On the game’s Steam page, Neowiz emphasizes: “To all AVA fans! We aim to release AVA on the planned release date.” In view of the history so far, this is likely to be one of the most exciting factors.

In addition, the team explained that they had made numerous updates before the release and also wanted to announce more to meet the wishes of the community (via Steam).

You can track this a bit in the game’s developer logs. Among other things, new maps for the game were announced, an anti-cheat system was presented and a removal of Pay2Win factors was discussed.

In the first game tests, there were still skins that had extra ammunition. There were also characters with specific boosts, such as a 10% movement boost. This will be removed – and they also want to remove Pay2Win completely. This was also a point criticized in the “Dog Tag” version in the Steam reviews.

The trailer shows a small impression of the game:

In terms of content, AVA wants to offer a class system with three different options. There are the classes Pointman, Rifleman and Sniper, each of which is strong at different distances and has its own strengths.

The Pointman, for example, uses close-range weapons like SMGs and shotguns to surprise enemies from behind. The weapons can be adjusted depending on the player.

There are five modes, ranging from “Annihilation” (deathmatch in teams) to “Escape” (escape mode where you either manage to escape or avoid it). There is also a mode against the AI.

Will the release succeed this time? That should be revealed in the near future as August 25 is only a few weeks away. If you are looking for an alternative until then (or in general): Here you will find the best free-to-play shooters of 2022.
