Berlin state Interior Senator Iris Spranger made statements about the suspect who caused the disaster in Germany. Stating that the suspect had a record with the police due to events stemming from psychological problems in the past, Spranger noted that investigations into the background of the incident are continuing.
Stating that the 29-year-old suspect of Armenian origin acquired German citizenship in 2015, Spranger stated that there were investigations opened against him in the past due to injuries, unauthorized access to property and insults.
“POSTERS WITH POLITICAL MESSAGES RELATED TO TURKEY”
Stating that the suspect had not drawn attention due to political or extremist events before, Spranger noted that no letter was found in the car claiming the crime, only “posters” were found. It was previously announced that there were posters containing political messages related to Turkey in the car the suspect was driving. While Spranger did not provide information about the contents of the posters, he said, “The extent to which these posters are related to the incident is being investigated within the scope of the investigation. Therefore, based on the current information, I consider yesterday’s incident as the insanity of a person with psychological problems.”
In the statement made by the police, it was noted that the posters in the car were “not related to the incident in terms of content” and it was not known who the posters belonged to. It was stated that the car was registered to the suspect’s sister. It was noted that the police made calls to the suspect’s house, who was caught at the scene, and that meticulous investigations were carried out on his mobile phone and computer.

On the other hand, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser also made a statement about the incident. Faeser visited the scene with Berlin Police Chief Barbara Slowik.
Expressing his condolences on behalf of the German government to the relatives of the deceased teacher and wishing the injured a recovery, Faeser said that he was deeply shaken by this terrible event.
Specially thanking the police and firefighters for controlling a complex situation in a short time, Faeser said, “We need to clarify the background about the incident. At least until now, it seems that the incident does not have a political background.” made its assessment.
