BioNTech company owned by Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci developed a vaccine against the coronavirus, which started in Wuhan, China, and turned into a pandemic in a short time all over the world and resulted in the death of millions of people, and millions of people became immune to the coronavirus as these vaccines.
Claims that the vaccines developed by BioNTech caused symptoms such as heart rhythm disorder, pain, swelling in the arms and legs, fatigue, sleep disturbance and brain fog were brought to court by a German health worker.
Law firm Rogert & Ulbrich filed the lawsuit on behalf of a middle-aged healthcare worker exercising his right to anonymity under German privacy law.
MILLIONS OF EURO COMPENSATION…
The health worker in question demanded 150 thousand euros in compensation for bodily harm caused by symptoms such as heart rhythm disorder, pain in the upper part of his body, swelling in the arms and legs, fatigue, sleep disturbance and brain fog, which he said appeared after he was vaccinated. Plaintiff also sought compensation for unspecified pecuniary damage.
The case in question is notable for being one of millions of euros in damages pursued by two law firms. The other law firm that filed the lawsuits was Mainz-based Casar-Preller, while Rogert & Ulbrich announced that it has filed approximately 250 lawsuits for clients seeking compensation for alleged side effects of the Covid-19 vaccines, while Caesar-Preller represents 100 lawsuits.
About three quarters of the 224 million vaccine doses administered in Germany were produced by BioNTech, while the majority of claims for compensation were filed against BioNTech, which pioneered the use of mRNA technology in vaccines.
The cases in Germany represent the largest compensation claim BioNTech has faced worldwide since the COVID-19 outbreak.
SIMILAR CASES ABOUT SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN OPENED IN ITALY
Similar lawsuits were filed in Italy for the alleged side effects of Kovid-19 vaccines.
BIONTECH CONSIDERS THE LAWSUITS AS ‘UNRESTORY’
In the statement made by BioNTech, which markets the vaccine it developed with Pfizer in Germany, it was stated that after careful examination, it was confident that the cases in question were “baseless” and would be rejected.
In the statement, it was noted that approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide, including at least 64 million in Germany, have been given the vaccine, and to date, potential side effects other than those already listed in the relevant product information have not been detected.
EU GOVERNMENTS MAY HAVE TO PAY THE EXPENSES…
It is noteworthy that it is not clear who will pay the legal costs or compensation if the plaintiff wins the lawsuit filed against BioNTech.
It is stated that the European Union (EU) legal shield may force EU governments to bear some of the costs.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA), the EU’s drug regulator, stated on June 6 that BioNTech’s Comirnaty vaccine, which is widely used in Western countries such as the USA, England and Germany, is safe to use, and that it is the subgroup of the Omicron variant, which has become dominant in many parts of the world. According to XBB recommended updating vaccines.
