German President Frank Walter Steinmeier announced yesterday that his planned visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was rejected by Ukraine.
While Western countries continue to visit the country’s capital, Kiev, to show their support for Ukraine due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, German President Frank Walter Steinmeier announced that his planned visit to Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, was not accepted by Ukraine.
In a statement during his visit to the Polish capital Warsaw, German President Steinmeier announced that Polish President Andrzej Duda proposed a joint visit to the Ukrainian capital Kiev with the Presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. President Steinmeier said in his statement: “I was ready for this visit. But I must admit that I was not wanted in Kiev.”
Ukraine has previously criticized German President Steinmeier for his links with Russia and the steps he has taken as a former foreign minister in improving relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Steinmeier, on the other hand, announced last week that he accepted the mistakes in his policies towards Russia during his term as foreign minister.
Last week, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as part of his visit to Ukraine, and the two leaders toured the streets of Kyiv.
