The World Cup culminates in the final on Friday, January 3.
A surprise was experienced at the PDC Darts World Championships in London on Thursday evening, when the second in the world ranking Michael Smith suffered a loss.
Dutch Kevin Doets did not bow down in the second round match, but knocked the 2023 world champion out of the continuation of the set 3–2.
“When I was 1-2 down, I felt like I could focus better than ever before, even though I was nervous,” “Hawkeye” Doets told PDC.
Doets won the fourth set and forced Smith to a tie break in the fifth. The 26-year-old Dutchman won the deciding set 6–4.
Smith’s loss means that he drops to at least 15th place in the world rankings. Doets’ ranking before the World Championships was 51st on the same list.
