SHL profile Dick Axelsson makes a comeback again – here is the 37-year-old’s new team: “I am extremely tagged”

Now it is clear.
Dick Axelsson makes a comeback in Djurgården.
“I am extremely excited about this trip,” says Axelsson in a statement.

Dick Axelsson has finished his career twice. This will be the 37-year-old’s third stay in Djurgården.

Last season, Axelsson made a short guest appearance in Väsby in Hockeyettan, before announcing in October that he is ending his career for the second time.

Axelsson ready

The contract with Djurgården extends over the coming season.
– I am very happy both for “Dicken’s” sake and for Djurgården’s sake that we are getting a very skilled player and a very motivated individual. I am of the belief that a person deserves both one and two chances to show what they are fully committed to, comments Djurgården’s sporting manager Niklas Wikegård in a press release.

Axelsson has already accounted for 224 games and 148 points in the Dif shirt.
– It was quite late that Dick registered his interest, but it was clear to us that he really wanted to come back to elite hockey and make a better finish than last time. I have had many conversations with Dick, we in the coaching team have spoken a lot about him and he himself has been inside us for tests, says Wikegård, who followed the player’s path back to the hockey rink;
– He has not only said but also shown that he is serious about coming back, and then we think that with the quality that Dick has, he is extremely welcome back.

The last time Dick Axelsson played for Djurgården was the 2021/22 season.
– My goal when I came back here in 2018 was to win SM gold with Djurgården. It is clearly one step later, now all the focus is on helping the association up to the SHL again. I am extremely excited about this journey, says the new acquisition in a statement.
