Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was released in cinemas at the end of July – and since then the toy satire has been breaking one record after another. The film grossed nearly $1.2 billion in less than a month. Lead actress Margot Robbie gets a big piece of this cake.
That’s how much Margot Robbie earns with Barbie
The industry magazine Variety capped Margot Robbie’s fee at an amount of approx. $50 million. The sum consisted of Robbie’s fixed salary and some bonus payments that are linked to the box office result. So Robbie benefits directly from the hype about Barbie and the success of the film. How much her co-star Ryan Gosling earned is not yet known. (Barbie in the limited 4K UHD Steelbook *)
These are the highest fees in film history: where does Margot Robbie end up?
Margot Robbie’s fee may increase as the comedy’s box office continues to grow. She currently ranks 15th on the list of the highest paid performers in history compiled by Business Insider. Daniel Craig for Knives Out, Dwayne Johnson for Red One and Leonardo DiCaprio for Inception.
Tom Cruise is currently #1 on the list, who reportedly raked in $100 million for Top Gun: Maverick last year. The highest-paid actress is Sandra Bullock, who earned $70 million for Gravity. The stars on this list typically negotiated profit-sharing deals.

What about Barbie 2?
After the many reports of success, a Barbie sequel is practically only a matter of time. Deals for Barbie 2 have not yet been signed by director Greta Gerwig or stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Negotiations between the film crew and the studio will not be possible at the moment. Due to the current double strike by screenwriters and actors, Hollywood has come to an indefinite standstill.
