Several sheep have died in connection with wolf attacks outside Hässleholm, according to a press release from the County Administrative Board Skåne.

The authority has inspected two separate attacks in the municipality, one near Sösdala and one near Nävlinge.

“The assessment is that the damage was caused by a wolf. At least one attack has taken place within the Svalemosse district. It cannot be ruled out that both attacks have been carried out by the same individual/individuals,” says David Börjesson, wildlife officer at the Skåne County Administrative Board, in the press release.

A total of five sheep have been killed in the attack and two are missing. Depending on which – or which – wolves are behind the attacks, protective hunting may become relevant. DNA samples from the attacks are now being sent for analysis.

“According to the legal practice that exists, protective hunting may become relevant in the case of the fourth attack in an area. If it is a wandering wolf, protective hunting can be started already after the third attack,” says David Börjesson.
