Suncor in Sarnia is reporting a sheen after the refinery’s internal sewer system overflowed Wednesday amid heavy rainfall, officials say.

The overflow happened around 7:35 pm, booms have been set up in the St. Clair River, and downriver water users have been contacted, Suncor officials said in a My Community Network Notification message late Wednesday.

“Water from the site is being safely managed,” and cleanup is underway, officials said, noting people could notice increased activity near the Suncor dock and a diesel fuel-type odor.
