The American Football Association confirmed the hiring on its website. 47-year-old Hayes has enjoyed a long and successful tenure as Chelsea manager. With the London club, she has so far won six league titles and the FA Cup five times.
But now new challenges await in the United States.
“I’ve dreamed of coaching the USA for a long time and now getting this opportunity is a dream come true,” she says.
Hayes will coach Chelsea for the rest of the season and then take over the US national team two months before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
