Maria Hemström Hemmingsson comes most recently from the role of director general of the Institute for Labor Market and Education Policy Evaluation.

The former director general Maria Mindhammar left the role last autumn. Since September 2023, Lars Lööw has been acting director general of the Employment Agency.
