Tonight, the 40th edition of the Grammy Awards was held at Annexet in Stockholm. Tove Lo was the big winner of the evening and took home the award as artist of the year and album of the year.
– God, how happy I will be. How I wish I was there right now, Tove Lo said in a recorded acceptance speech
Music Sweden’s heaviest prizes were awarded at Annexet and the music party was led by Amie Bramme Sey and The Hives singer Pelle Almqvist. The superstars of Swedish House Mafia, in their absence, won the electro/dance category for the album “Paradise again”.
For the first time, the EPA can appeared at the gala in the form of Elov & Benny in collaboration with Sofie Svensson. They competed in the song of the year category for “Bubbel på balkongen”. There they faced, among others, Cornelia Jakobs and Victor Leksell. But the award for song of the year went to Loam & Adaam with the song “Fakka ur”.
One of the talking points of the evening was the music duo Hooja, who brought a moose to the gala.
Radio controlled moose
– It’s a radio-controlled moose and I think its name is Björn, says TV4’s reporter Nanna Martorell, who had a chat with the masked duo from Gällivare.
– The main thing is that we get to stand here and see everything that happens here tonight, they say to TV4.
Tove Lo had the most nominations, who received four for her album “Dirt femme” – which then gave her the award for album of the year. The prize for lyricist of the year went to Jonathan Johansson and pop of the year went to veteran Veronica Maggio.
During the evening, Thomas Ledin was also honored when he received the gala’s honorary award from Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand.
– I am completely taken by this fine justification, thank you very much, he said.
Ant Wan without prizes
Another talking point was hip-hop artist Ant Wan, who last year raged against the Grammys and asked to have his nomination removed. The reason? He was nominated in too few categories. This year he was nominated in the category artist of the year and hip-hop of the year for the album “The only Wan”. But the artist was without awards and Tove Lo took home the category as artist of the year, while Cleo won hip-hop of the year.
– This means a lot, a lot. There’s so much shit to say. We came from poop and a really fucking black place, Cleo said in her acceptance speech.
