She works at the Center for Sami Health Research in Norway and describes sexual violence against women as a destructive male culture.
– The violence mainly affects women and children, but we must not forget that boys are also affected.
Missing the men’s perspective
Astrid MA Eriksen misses the men’s perspective and thoughts in the debate.
– What are they thinking? How can they contribute to changing this culture? I very rarely see men discuss this, so I wish we could get them on board too.

Sexual violence big problem
She works with the research project violence against Sami women, which is funded by the Sami Parliament. Among other things, she investigates the extent of the violence and what support Sami women receive.
– Sexual violence against Sami women is a big problem. When it comes to certain forms of sexual violence, Sami women have a higher vulnerability than women in Sweden, she says.
