She thought she would meet Leonardo Di Caprio in Cannes

Meeting her favorite star during the Cannes Film Festival was this fifty-year-old’s dream. But the woman quickly lost hope, and a good sum of money.

When you’re a fan, you tend to follow all the news about the star, collect press articles or hang posters in your room. The most passionate go so far as to go to all the concerts or to follow the personality in his travels, in the sole hope of approaching him, of meeting his idol, of hoping to get a smile, a selfie or to have the chance to talk to him. A passion so strong that some are even willing to pay a certain amount of money to access VIP areas frequented by these People.

This is the case of an Italian woman, aged 48, whose idol is none other than Leonardo Di Caprio. By following pages dedicated to the actor on social networks bringing together many fans of the star, the woman allowed herself to be trapped. Gaining confidence, she managed to speak with a certain “Rick Yorn”, who posed as the actor’s producer and agent. The latter then asks him to pay him money in exchange for the promise of a meeting lasting several days with Leonardo Di Caprio during the Cannes festival. She even obtained a fake membership card allowing her to approach VIPs during these private parties.

After making several transfers for a total amount of 6,750 euros, the woman quickly fell down. The online scammers of course never organized a meeting with his idol and were content to pocket this handsome sum of money. The victim filed a complaint against X for fraud with the Milan public prosecutor’s office.
