Although filming on The Mandalorian & Grogu was completed last year, Lucasfilm is keeping a low profile when it comes to specific details about the story of the new Star Wars film. At least we know Sigourney Weaver makes an appearance. Last but not least, the actress herself confirmed this.
Weaver is very familiar with complex science fiction blockbusters. She played Ellen Ripley in the Alien films biggest icons of the genre. She has been an integral part of the world of Pandora since the launch of Avatar. Now she ventures to the outer edge of the distant galaxy for the first time.
Distinguished Visitors to The Mandalorian & Grogu: Sigourney Weaver’s Star Wars Role Reportedly Revealed
Back in August 2024, Weaver spoke publicly about her Star Wars casting and shared that she even met Baby Yoda on set. But what role does she play in The Mandalorian & Grogu? Well-connected scooper Jeff Sneider spoke about Weaver’s character in the film on a new edition of YouTube show The Hot Mic.
Sneider was one of the first to report Weaver’s casting in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Now he reveals that her appearance is only a small supporting role. Weaver is apparently not seen for more than a few scenes. To do this, she plays a high-ranking figure: one Colonel of the New Republic.
Representatives of the New Republic have already appeared in The Mandalorian and were most recently present in the form of X-Wing pilots in Skeleton Crew. The most well-known character with a connection to the New Republic in the Mandoverse is Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). Now Sigourney Weaver joins him.
Sneider also reveals her character’s name: Bishop. Anyone who has seen the Alien films should recognize the reference immediately. In Aliens: The Return, Weaver’s Ripley works with an android named Bishop, who for once doesn’t turn out to be a villain. This was played by Lance Henriksen at the time.
This information has not been officially confirmed. However, Sneider’s statements are supported by the fan site Bespin Bulletin, which also has sources in Star Wars circles. This would give us at least two overlapping rumors.
Fun fact: Sigourney Weaver is the second familiar face from Aliens: The Return to stop by the Mandovorse for a small role. Michael Biehn (Corporal Dwayne Hicks in Aliens) appeared in the 5th episode of the 2nd season of The Mandalorian as a mercenary on the eerie planet Corvus.
When does The Mandalorian & Grogu start in cinemas?
On May 21, 2026 Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his protégé plunge into their first screen adventure. Mando creator Jon Favreau sits in the director’s chair for the first Star Wars film since 2019. He co-wrote the script with producer Dave Filoni, who has been a mainstay in the Mandoverse since the beginning.
