The number of measles cases is increasing dramatically in the world, warns the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2023, over 306,000 cases were reported, a 79 percent increase over the previous year.
Statistics on the number of deaths from the contagious viral disease have not yet been compiled, but the WHO expects that they too will increase.
In Sweden, measles is uncommon because children are vaccinated against the disease.
