Sharp criticism within the Liberals against Hamilton’s statement

Within the Liberals, there is now a massive criticism of Riksdag member Carl B Hamilton’s statements about Jews and Muslims earlier today.
– Many contact the party leadership and wonder what is happening in the party, says a source to TV4 Nyheterna.

In an interview with TV4 Nyheterna, Riksdag Carl B Hamilton (L) said today that he is critical of Jomshof’s previous statements, but stands behind the party’s decision not to vote him off the justice committee.
– I think the limit is reached if they were to start speaking in the same way about Jews, and it is not impossible, he says.

The statement has been interpreted as the Liberals distinguishing between the vulnerability of Jews and Muslims, and it has led to sharp criticism from several quarters.
“Offensive. The liberals are undergoing a total moral and intellectual collapse,” writes Morgan Johansson (S) on X, formerly Twitter.
The diplomat and foreign minister Jan Eliasson (S) agrees: “The liberal collapse is now complete.

Source: Many are concerned

The Jewish Youth Federation has also reacted to Hamilton’s statement.
“No minorities/groups deserve to be treated badly and all parties should stand up against violations and discrimination. What happened to everyone’s equal value?”, writes the union in a tweet.

And now the anger is also growing internally in the party. According to TV4 Nyheternas källa, many are concerned that the party will now be accused of making a difference between different religious groups and there are loud discussions about how the situation should be handled.

TV4 Nyheterna has contacted party leader Johan Persson for a comment.
