At the moment, the mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, is still the chairman of the VNG. Dijksma would then take over from him from June 2023, for a term of four years. From December to June, the mayor of Utrecht will work as vice-chairman. She succeeds Hubert Bruls, the mayor of Nijmegen. Both Bruls and Van Zanen are in their second and final term of office.
