On discussion forums in social media and among people we meet in town, there are different opinions about electric scooters. It seems to be a generational issue.

– I don’t think they are needed. The youngsters can walk and they just leave them everywhere.
Alexia Selberg and Izabella Stenberg, on the other hand, think it’s about time they came to Kiruna.
– If you have to go to the stables, for example, it’s easier, says Izabella Stenberg.
100 electric scooters in Kiruna
It is a company in a different industry that has become a franchisee of an Icelandic scooter company. One hundred e-scooters are now scattered all over central Kiruna.
Via an app on the mobile phone, you can see where the nearest bike is. Then just scan a QR code, drive where you’re going and leave the bike there.
Unclear where the bikes may be parked
But on September 1, a new law will come in which says that electric scooters must be placed in bicycle racks or specially designated parking spaces. However, the municipalities have the option of granting derogations from the law.
Pär Sjölander, manager and co-owner of the electric park rental companies, will discuss the matter with those responsible at Kiruna municipality during the autumn. Only then will it become clear what it will look like in Kiruna.
