A woman named “Nikbaht”, who was kept locked in a dilapidated room by her brothers for 25 years in their house in the Çar Kale Vezir Abad neighborhood of Kabul, was freed after the neighbors informed the Taliban forces. Nikbaht, aged 45-50, who lived an unlucky life despite his name meaning “good fortune”, was rescued as a result of an operation carried out by Taliban forces on his house. Nikbaht was treated at the Vezir-i Akbar Khan Hospital in the center of Kabul.
Speaking to AA correspondent, Kabul 10th District Police Chief Abdul Rahim Ecmal made the following statements on the subject:
“As a result of the notification of the local people, we learned that a woman was kept at home for 25 years and we immediately carried out an operation. Her brother kept her in a room for 25 years and used violence. Claiming that the woman had psychological problems, they kept her in a room where even an animal could not live. They also kept the woman’s 4 brothers. We arrested her. According to her brother, this woman got married and separated years ago and took shelter in her brothers’ house, and because she could not get along with her brother’s husband, her brother also subjected her to such cruelty. The woman has become such a mood because she has not seen the light of day for years that she is afraid of anyone she sees. We will also ensure the safety of the woman. And we will get it treated.”
HE STAYED IN THE SAME ROOM SUMMER AND WINTER
The approximately 10 square meter room where Nikbaht stays resembles a ruin. The inside of the room is full of stones and garbage. Almost the entire ceiling is covered in spider webs.
The heavy odor surrounding the room, where heaps of food waste and feces are located, is noticed as soon as you enter.
On the other hand, it was learned that Nikbaht was given food in a dirty bowl through a hole under the window of the room, that Nikbaht had not washed for many years and lived in the same clothes.
THE FAMILY HAS NO RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Neighborhood Headman Hadım Hüseyin Hüseyni stated that the family in question does not have close ties with the residents of the neighborhood and noted that people do not come and go to this house.
Hüseyni explained how they learned about the imprisoned woman Nikbaht: “The children who came to this house said that there was a ‘crazy’ here. We came and saw closely and saw that she was not ‘crazy’, she was imprisoned. So we informed the regional authorities.” she explained with her expressions.
Hüseyni stated that when he saw Nikbaht, he had difficulty communicating with him, but he understood the questions he asked and realized that he had not seen sunlight for years.
HE WILL RECEIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY
Rüya Behzad, one of the doctors at Vezir-i Ekber Han Hospital, noted that the woman was taken to emergency care and physical therapy would be started.
Behzad said, “When he first came, he was not conscious and could not speak. Now his condition is getting better. He can talk, eat and sit.” said.
Nikbaht’s brother, Gulam Sahi, who imprisoned him, stated in his statement to the press that he “regretted” what happened. (AA)
