During a press conference Monday in Lourdes, the French episcopate revealed that eleven former bishops had had cases with civil justice or the justice of the Church for “sexual abuse” or “non-denunciation” and revealed a “reprehensible” conduct of the former Archbishop of Bordeaux, Cardinal Ricard. These revelations come a little over a year after the publication of the Sauvé commission’s shock report estimating the number of victims since 1950 at around 330,000.
