With her contributions, Bicanic wants to tackle the many prejudices that exist about sexual abuse, for example that it only happens to women or that you can defend yourself by fighting or shouting. “In addition, not everyone is aware that 85 percent of the cases involve someone they know,” says Bicanic. “Talking about that is difficult, because it has consequences for you and your environment.” The reaction of victims when it happens to them is also largely the same. “About 70 to 80 percent of victims freeze as soon as they are unwantedly touched or cooperate. That is a natural reaction.”
