Nude bathing, sex and alcoholism – but also rebellion and thirst for freedom. This year Ingmar Bergman’s groundbreaking film “Summer with Monika” celebrates 70 years. The anniversary is commemorated during this year’s Bergman week in Fårö, which this summer pays tribute to the indecent film art with the theme “Sind och skam”.

“The summer with Monika” had a great impact and gave rise to the concept of “Swedish sin”, this after Time Magazine published an attention-grabbing article entitled “Sin and Sweden”, which moralized about Sweden’s derailed and casual attitude to sex and cohabitation.

Today, cinema audiences are not as sensitive – are they? This year, Bergman week twists and turns on sin and shame to examine our own self-reflective contemporary times. Bergman Week – which this year clashes with Almedals Week – takes place on Fårö on 26–30 June.
