Severe weather hits Utrecht code orange due to thunderstorms wind

Tips

During storms or gusts of wind, stay indoors as much as possible. “If you have to go outside, leave the building via an exit that is not directly in the wind,” according to the Utrecht Safety Region (VRU). “Keep windows and doors closed and secure exterior shutters. Bring garden furniture and other loose items inside or secure them properly. Do not park your car near trees and fences.”

Another tip: do not take shelter under trees or near houses and buildings, because of falling branches, roof tiles or other items. Preferably take shelter in a building and wait until the storm has passed. Are you traveling by car? Avoid bridges and dams, according to the VRU. Listen to the traffic information. Stay away from open water. Do not carry out any (emergency) repairs to your house during the storm. Do this only when the wind has died down. Who to call if you have storm damage
