The notice of recall concerns the products Granit Original White Portion Large, Granit Original Loose, Granit Original Portion, Lundgrens Skåne, Lundgrens Skåne Slim, Lundgrens Skärgården, Lundgrens Västkusten, Lundgrens Österlen, Lundgrens Aftonglöd, Lundgrens Fjällen, Lundgrens Lägereld and Lundgrens Norrland.
Consumers who purchased products manufactured within the time span are asked to stop using the products, according to a press release from the company.
The substance that the snus varieties have been found to contain too high levels of is benz(a)pyrene, which the Swedish Food Agency, with reference to the WHO, classifies as carcinogenic.
Benz(a)pyrene is part of the group of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and is a group of several hundred compounds that are formed when organic materials are heated or incompletely burned. According to the Swedish Food Agency, food and air pollution, along with smoking and snuff, are the most common sources of substances included in the group.
