According to Argentina, there is no longer any doubt about the legitimate victory of the opposition. Venezuela’s incumbent president, Nicolas Maduro, claims victory.

By Friday, several countries in South and Central America had recognized Venezuela’s opposition as the real winner of the country’s presidential election last weekend. By Friday evening Finnish time, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Peru had given their recognition.

According to Argentina’s foreign minister, the opposition was elected president of Venezuela Edmundo Gonzalez.

– We can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that the legitimate winner (of the Venezuelan presidential election) and the candidate elected for the presidency is Edmundo Gonzalez, said the Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino message service in X on Friday.

According to Mondino, the decision was made after the Venezuelan opposition had published online the information it had collected about Sunday’s voting results. Right after Argentina’s announcement, Uruguay also recognized the victory of the Venezuelan opposition.

– Based on the overflowing evidence, it is clear to Uruguay that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won the majority of votes in the Venezuelan presidential election, said the foreign minister Omar Paganini in X.

Gonzalez’s election victory was also previously recognized by the United States. An authoritarian president of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro was declared the election winner in the country, but the integrity of the election result has been widely disputed both inside the country and abroad.
