Several pets lost in Norfolk house fire

Norfolk County firefighters were called to two blazes over the holidays, including one in which several family pets died.

Damage is estimated at $100,000 after a house fire at 1st Concession St. on Tuesday at about 7:25 pm Stations from Courtland, Delhi and Langton responded.

Jeff Smith, deputy fire chief, said there was heavy smoke inside the house when firefighters arrived. Several animals were lost and two people were transported to hospital for observation by Norfolk County Paramedic Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday at about 2 am, stations from Delhi, Teeterville, Courtland and Waterford were called to a house fire on Windham Road 11.

Smith said there were “heavy fire conditions” coming from an attached garage. He said the occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms and left the house without injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no estimate of the damage is yet available.
