The single-family home was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

The blaze was brought under control by about 5 p.m., Cory Armstrong-Smith, Norfolk County’s fire prevention officer, said in a media release.

Despite high winds the fire was contained to the home, nearby vehicle and two small outbuildings,” he said.

Highway 6 was closed between Port Ryerse Road and Norfolk County Highway 24 East, said Norfolk OPP.

Total loss of the structures is estimated at $600,000. The cause remains under investigation.

It’s believed the property was insured.

“No injuries of occupants or firefighters were reported, but several family pets are not accounted for,” Armstrong-Smith said.
