Soldiers arrested for plot to assassinate Lula

A plot to assassinate Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2022 has been uncovered by police.

Several soldiers have been arrested during the ongoing summit in Rio de Janeiro, suspected of having planned a coup d’état.

In a statement from Brazil’s federal police, it is said that the suspects are “soldiers with training within the country’s special forces”.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday in an extensive operation. The goal of the police operation was to stop “a criminal organization that was responsible for planning a coup d’état and thus preventing the popularly elected government from taking power in 2022,” according to the federal police statement.

The coup would have been carried out on December 15, 2022, weeks before Lula da Silva was to formally take over the presidency from Jair Bolsonaro. The plans included assassinating the future president, vice president and one of the Supreme Court justices.

The plot was codenamed “The Green and Yellow Dagger,” a reference to the colors of the Brazilian flag, according to the police statement. The suspected conspirators in the conspiracy also possess “advanced military” skills.

Ukraine has carried out its first attack into Russia with the American Atacms system since the new go-ahead came from Washington.

    – It is, of course, a signal that they want to step it up, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Lavrov issued a warning of revenge when he held a press conference during the ongoing G20 meeting in Brazil.

    – We see this as a qualitative new phase in Western countries’ war against Russia, and we will respond accordingly.

Lavrov referred to the new doctrine on nuclear weapons signed into law by President Vladimir Putin.

    – I hope they (Western countries) read it in its entirety, Lavrov said.

Russia has previously accused the United States of increasing efforts in the war by providing both personnel to program robots and for maintenance, in addition to the United States donating the robotic system to Ukraine.
