When Sweden will play its first competitive international matches under new national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson, the star trio Emil Forsberg, Robin Olsen and Victor Nilsson Lindelöf will be missing.
However, the super talent is Lucas BergvallTottenham, in the squad.
– He gets a lot of trust from the coaches at Tottenham. He doesn’t start yet but he takes the chance, he still needs to learn a lot, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
It is the first time Bergvall has been selected for the “real” national team. In January, the 18-year-old played a training international match during the January tour.
Even the defender Hjalmar Ekdal missing due to injury when the men’s national team face Azerbaijan (away) and Estonia (home) in the Nations League C division on 5 and 8 September respectively.

The big bang in the squad is the defender Alex Douglaswho play in the Polish league with Lech Poznan. He moved to Poland from Västerås SK this summer.
23-year-old Douglas has not been selected in a national team at any level before.
– He has taken Poland by storm. We have seen all the games with him. He moves forward, is brave with the ball and fast, says Tomasson.
The injured Manchester United star Victor Nilsson Lindelöf is normally Sweden’s team captain, but now it will be the Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski who gets to wear the bandage.
Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson took over as national team captain in March and Sweden has since only played four international training matches. There has been a victory against Albania (1–0) and three losses against Portugal (2–5), Denmark (1–2) and Serbia (1–3).

About the Nations League:
The Men’s Nations League in Europe consists of four divisions with the best teams playing in the A division and the worst in the D division.
Sweden left the second highest division in 2022 and now plays in the C division.
The group game there is decided in the autumn and it is necessary to win the group to be moved up directly to the B division.
The second in the group gets to play a playoff in a double meeting (home, away) against a third in the group from the B division in a battle for play in the second highest division in the future.
The two worst fours in the C Division’s four groups are relegated directly to the lowest division. The two best four get to play a playoff against two group runners-up from the D-division.
Sweden’s matches in the C division:
September 5: Azerbaijan (away).
September 8: Estonia (home).
October 11: Slovakia (b).
October 14: Estonia (b).
November 16: Slovakia (h).
November 19: Azerbaijan (h).
