The young man was released in connection with a hospital visit to Vrinnevisjukhuset in Norrköping. He was sentenced in November to ten years in prison for attempted murder.
The detention center pointed out that any summons for the hospital visit should not be sent to the 20-year-old’s civil registry address, but only to the detention center, but this was not the case.
Another mistake may have been to put the man in a cell with his own toilet two days before the visit. He then had to take laxatives and may have understood that the visit was underway.
The 20-year-old had access to his phone and during the two days was able to make 18 calls to family members in his contact list.
A final circumstance noted in retrospect was that before being transported, the man asked to have his own shoes brought in for cleaning, according to the incident report.
“This may indicate that he wanted to make sure he had good shoes to run in.”
