Västra Ringsjön has flooded its beds.

About 30 lots are now under water.

– There is no way to pump, it flows back just as fast, says duty officer Hans Månsson at Rescue Service South to Aftonbladet.

The water level has been high in western Ringsjön all autumn, but the recent rain and the saturated ground have caused a large flood at Sjöholmen and Ringsjöbaden.

– We got a very high water level. The first thing that happens then is that we have problems with the drain because we have no stormwater runoff, says Bo Anders Nilsson, chairman of Ringsjöbaden’s communities, to Sydsvenskan.

Toilets closed

The drain has now been shut off for several properties along Ringsjön, instead bajamajors are on display.

– Our pumping stations are overloaded with lake water flowing in. There are always problems when there are high flows, but right now it is extreme, says Tomas Svedbom, facility engineer at VA Syd, to Skånska Dagbladet.

In total, there are 31 houses in the area, most of them summer houses. If the rain continues to fall, several houses are at risk of being flooded.

– It is a large area that is flooded. We have been and looked at it today, but we have no opportunity to take any measures as the water is filling up and rising and the ground is saturated, says Hans Månsson to Aftonbladet.

More rain on the way

At 15:40 on New Year’s Day, SOS Alarm received an alarm from a property owner about water damage in one of the houses in Sjöholmen, writes Skånska Dagbladet.

Just Sjöholmen is within the municipality of Eslöv.

– It is clear that there have been floods there in the past, but it is probably more on the Höör side of the lake, says Marie Carlberg, communications manager at Eslöv municipality.

But more rain is on the way, both Wednesday and Thursday.

Västra Ringsjön has flooded several times before. In 2002, the Home Guard was called in to protect the properties.

SMHI has issued a yellow warning for high flows throughout southern Scania, including in the areas around Kristianstad.
