Several French sports federations have recently been victims of cyber attacks. The personal data of millions of licensees have been hacked. They would be on sale on a hackers forum.
After the proven cases of Kiabi and Showroomprivé and the rumor around the giant of the Carrefour mass distribution, the computer hackers this time attacked the sports federations. Thursday, January 23, the FFTA – French Archery Federation – and the FFME – French Federation of Mountain and Climbing, were forced to prevent their licensees with a cyberattack on their services. Thus, some 200,000 of them (the two federations combined) were potentially concerned.
As often, stolen personal data is names, first names, birth dates, email addresses, postal addresses, user identifiers and telephone numbers. At the origin of the leakage of these data, the FFTA indicated “A security flaw with our service provider in charge of licenses and managers spaces on behalf of several sports federations.” Therefore, we could expect other federations to be impacted by cyber attack and that is exactly what is happening.
8 sports federations affected, 4.5 million hacks
This Friday, On X, a surfer reports in detail the names of the federations affected by the extent of the cyber attack as well as the number of licensees whose personal data has been hacked.
- French boxing federation – FFBOXE: 620 264 licensees
- French Federation of Motor Sport – FFSA: 361 740
- French motorcycle federation – FFM: 462 912
- French Roller & Skateboard Federation – FFRS: 577 061
- Sports and cultural federation of France – FSCF: 1,334,442
- French archery federation – FFTA: 625 434
- French Federation of Mountain and Climbing – FFME: 808 881
- French Force Federation – Ffforce: 64 512
Note that among the data of more than 360,000 FFFSA licensees, the hacker would have obtained those of the French Formula 1 pilots Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.
For the time being, the digital gendarme, the CNIL, has been warned of the incident and in some cases the attack was neutralized. The hacker has put the 4.5 million data on the Breachforums site for sale. In the event of a successful transaction, the recovered data could be used during online scams. This is why it is recommended that licensees are recommended to read the cyber attack from their sports federation and not to hesitate to modify their passwords.
