The largest wildfire in Texas history continues to plague the US state.
Michelle Naul is one of several Texas residents who have now become homeless.
– I have no home, my daughters have no home, my grandchildren have no home, she tells TV4 Nyheterna.
U.S. fire officials continue to battle record-breaking wildfires. A forest fire that is the second largest in US history. Although the spread has slowed somewhat, new fires continue to rage.
Two people have so far been confirmed dead. Over 500 buildings have been destroyed. Now many residents in the state are homeless.
“We have nothing”
TV4 Nyhetern’s foreign correspondent Tomas Kvarnkullen is on site in Childress, Texas and has met several witnesses.
– There was great dejection and despair in this small part of the city where several houses were completely reduced to ashes. Big shock too, he says and adds:
– Many were not prepared for how quickly the fire would reach their house.
Michelle Naul and her family are now without a home. When she meets TV4 Nyheterna, she confirms the great sadness that many Texans share.
– It is a loss, we have nothing.
The weather complicates the firefighters’ work
Tomas Kvarnkullen says that it becomes clear how extensive the fire is when you drive through parts of Texas where the fire has spread. Among other things, fields are completely black.
– It is still only 15 percent of the larger fire that is under control. The weather is not helping the firefighters. It is still warm for the season, dry in the fields and still windy.
– There has been some information that the weather could possibly change during the beginning of the week. Of course, that would be positive news for everyone in this part of Texas
