The recent explosions in Stockholm and Gothenburg are reportedly unrelated, says a journalist who follows gang crime.
There have been numerous explosions in Sweden at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year. During the last 24 hours, there have been explosions in both Gothenburg and Stockholm.
The Gothenburg and Stockholm explosions are reportedly unrelated. In the Stockholm region, the police have known how to expect attacks, because a major trial related to the criminal gang Foxtrot is underway.
– This is a revenge attack. Stockholm’s events in Farsta, Lidingö and Fagersjö are related to the Foxtrot gang, according to a journalist living in Uppsala who is familiar with gang violence in Sweden Anni Emilia Alentola On Radio Suomen Päivä on Wednesday.
Evening newspaper Expressen’s according to Fagersjö, the explosion is related to the murder of the gang leader’s mother, which is currently being tried.
In Gothenburg, it is reportedly a matter of revenge attacks between two other gangs, Alentola says.
– There they are connected to two regional rival gangs or enemy gangs. There does not seem to be any connection between the events in Gothenburg and Stockholm at this stage.
Taxi driver arrested
An explosion occurred in Lidingö, east of Stockholm, on Tuesday morning. One person has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the explosion.
– It was very interesting that a taxi driver had been arrested, Alentola states.
The leaders of the Foxtrot gang stay in Turkey and Iraq. Taxis are ordered from there as getaway cars.
The involvement of taxi drivers also tells, among other things afternoon newspaper Aftonbladet.
Since last fall, a dozen people have already died in the internal showdowns of Foxtrot, which is known for its violence. Interviewed by Swedish radio according to criminologist Manne Gerelli, the Foxtrot criminal organization practically no longer exists.
Inspection zones according to the Danish model?
Sweden is trying to look to Denmark as a model for eradicating violence between gangs. The Swedish Diet, i.e. parliament, has a bill under consideration inspection zones.
– For example, a neighborhood can be defined as an inspection zone. There, the police can freely perform body checks and go through people’s belongings and cars without any suspicion of crime, Alentola says.
The bill pushed by the Sweden Democrats is scheduled to be voted on in April. The effects of the law can be both negative and positive.
– It has been found to increase ethnic profiling and discrimination, but on the other hand, bombs and weapons have been removed in Denmark in this way, Alentola sums up.
