Several dozen people have been trampled to death in a religious event in India.

According to the authorities, there are around 60 dead, but the number may rise. Indian news channel NDTV reported 87 deaths. In addition, at least 150 people have been injured.

People had gathered for a religious event in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, about 200 kilometers southeast of the capital New Delhi. According to preliminary data, 15,000 people participated in the event, although only 5,000 people were allowed to attend.

After the event ended, there was a crowd at the exit. According to an eyewitness interviewed by the local media, everyone tried to hurry away, but people started falling over each other.
